Democrats in cahoots with independent candidates

Head of independent campaign writes letter to the editor signed by Democrat candidate

September 15, 2005

Just last week, Dover Township second ward Democratic candidate Mark Baldaccini sent a scathing letter to the editor which among other things, criticized former independent candidate Carol Benson for making reference to her “personal angel.”

Many in the community were outraged that Baldaccini would mock this women when she referred to her “personal angel”, because it refers to her deceased grand child.

The outrage was so intense, that Mark Baldaccini, soon admitted to friends and others,  that he did not write the letter and simply signed it, thinking the reference to “personal angel”,  was directed at Dover Township Council President Greg McGuckin.

Baldaccini went on to admit that the letter was written by Robert K. Haelig Jr., the former Republican consultant, and the individual behind the independent candidate slate known as Rescue Dover running for office in Dover Township.

“This raises a number of significant questions which we are calling upon the Democrats to answer today”, says Juan Bellu, Dover Republican Co-Campaign Chairman.  “First of all, are the Democrats and the independent candidates working cooperatively in this campaign and if so, the fact needs to be made public, declared on elect reports, and we need to have an opinion from the NJ election law and enforcement commission as to whether or not such cooperative effort is even legal.   It is certainly unethical and continues a pattern of disgraceful behavior by both the Democrats and the Haelig group.”

Bellu went on to say that the situation is even more confusing since one of Haelig’s two candidates is actually a candidate in ward 2 and is supposedly running against Baldaccini while at the same time the political head of that group is writing letters to the editor which are being submitted by Baldaccini.

Bellu finally said, “to be clear on the issues is not about someone else writing a letter to the editor which a candidate signed. Political people and business people have assistance in writing all the time.  The issue is that the letter was written by the titular head of the independent candidates in Dover Township who claim not to be affiliated with either the Democrats or the Republicans and who are running a candidate against Baldaccini.  That is the conflict, that is the essence of the fraud and that is what must be investigated and explained immediately.”  He ended.
