Save Barnegat Bay has, over the couse of sixteen months, assisted the
Township of Dover in reviewing their Master Plan and in addressing the
issue of rezoning the Fischer Boulevard and Church Road areas.
After much work, the Township on Tuesday,March 25, repassed the rezoning
ordinance that had originally been passed in the spring of 2002. This
time the Township avoided alleged procedural irregularities that had
caused some parties to appeal the original rezoning to Superior Court.
This ordinance reduce the allowable density to one house per three acres
in an area of approximately 1,400 acres.
This would have numerous positive environmental effects such as reducing
the amount of polluting runoff passing into Silver Bay and Barnegat Bay,
and creating less traffic on our already clogged roads.
It would make certain high density residential proposals, as well as the
celebrated Home Depot proposal, impossible without a use variance from
the Zoning Board.
Save Barnegat Bay has greatly enjoyed working with the citizens of this
part of Dover Township, who did most of the work themselves. We are
especially happy to and for Mr. Frank Kenny, who played an important
leadership role in this effort.
