Tax Hike for Property Tax Relief Is
Insane and Immoral"Here we go again. Governors Codey and Corzine are switching gears and now trying to justify their tax increase by promising that half will be used for property tax relief. If voters were interested in being taken for a ride this weekend, they'd head to Great Adventure, Jenkinson's or Wildwood. The Governors should be ashamed of themselves for even trying to sell this snake oil. The Codey-Corzine proposal is no better than the lie that the millionaires tax would be used to lower property taxes. That turned out to be a big lie and so is the claim that this sales tax hike will be dedicated to tax relief.Actually, this proposal may be worse. Everyone knows that the sales tax hits those least able to pay the hardest. Have Codey and Corzine lost their mind or their compassion? Raising taxes on the poorest New Jerseyans and the middle class families that are already struggling to get by in order to give them a few more dollars in a politically motivated rebate check isn't just insane, it's immoral.
Apparently the Democrats still haven't gotten the message that voters don't want any more taxes and they don't buy the tax hikes for tax relief snake oil anymore. Dick Codey, who as Governor last year gutted rebates last year rather than hike taxes, should be especially ashamed of this ploy."
