Dover must not take Toms River's name

Open your eyes and you will see beautiful landmarks, historical architectural structures, and even learn a little history.

We have great museums, wonderful artists, and some of the finest foods.

We're known for being Toms River, which may be misleading, because most people have shortened the name for the sake of convenience.

What is even more deceptive is having the mailing addresses for neighboring towns known as Toms River.

The Toms River Post Office serves many municipalities, including Manchester, Berkeley and South Toms River, and I do not hear any of these residents complaining about being confused as to where they live or trying to acquire our name.

Instead of the residents of Dover Township acquiring our name and jumping onto the bandwagon, maybe they should take some time to learn about their community and the great things it has to offer and promote their findings.

Another solution would be to take this up with the U.S. Postal Service, which promotes the name and use of Toms River instead of individual municipalities.

Yet another solution, find another name — maybe Dover Township is not the best, so try and find a name that suits the community better and build a reputation upon it instead of acquiring someone else's reputation.
